This cable has the four-prong Garmin plug on one end and leads to the DC power outlet a la cigatette lighter , a serial port for the laptop , and a miniplug for the TM-D When traveling, my wife prefers the Nuvi. I prefer using the laptop for navigation so the GPS does it all and the Nuvi stays in the glove box. I have not thoroughly tested it, but I don't think the USB port on the Nuvi outputs navigation information--it's there for updates and power.
