I have one player that is a great mid range shot and also should be able to penetrate fairly easily against most defensive players but I really like ball screens and off ball screens as well. Some of the advantages of this offense include simplicity, spreading of the floor, and constant fluid motion or continuity. If you have good ball-handlers and post players you will get a lot of scoring opportunities off of the pick-and-roll. When I was at Haskell Indian Nations University, we used this offense and got a lot of open shots off of the continuity. It is very difficult for a defense to continue to guard multiple ball-screen actions with good players on offense.
Another part of the European influence is the stretch 4 that can pass, shoot, and dribble. This offense is great for a stretch 4 as he will get tons of shots off of the initial kick out from the point guard. In addition, you can add in tweaks of your own such as a pick and pop option for your 4. Ball screen defense involves 5 defenders covering for each other and being on the same page at the same time.
When you force most defenses to go through this progression of reads and guard multiple ball screens, there is a high probability that someone will make a mistake or blow a coverage. Your team can play with confidence and consistency when they know ahead of time the areas of the court where ball screen action will take place. Make the throwback pass to Player 4 who peeks inside for the high-low seal before looking to the second side.
Upon being looked at, dribbled at or pivoted towards, Player 3 blast cuts from corner to wing for the dynamic catch. Player 4 follows into the wing pick-and-roll while Player 5 replaces to the reversal spot. Now we are back into the EURO flow. Player 1 may enter to either wing.
